Arsenal: Why Does the Media and the Footballing Community Hate Them So Much?

As a supporter of Arsenal I have always passionately supported my club through the highs and lows. Arsenal play some of the most beautiful football on the planet and is a real joy to watch for football fans all over the world.
But in whichever website, blog you check out it is easy to find articles insulting Arsenal and the legendary Arsene Wenger. Whatever the reason may be people are waiting to go on a crazy rant about Arsenal and their players.
English journalists especially write trash about Arsenal and its players. Several of these articles are really poor pieces which are extremely biased and poorly researched.
Although Arsenal play some fine football that entertain fans of not just Arsenal several English journalists and fans have never taken a liking to Arsene Wenger and his philosophy. Maybe it is because he brought a style of play that was so against England’s view on football. His style was totally opposite to the kick and rush technique the English appreciate so much despite its obvious ineffectiveness in today’s world.
Another reason the English hate him may be because of his refusal to buy the overpriced and overhyped English players.
The media should acknowledge the fact that England does not produce world class talent like other countries and even when they are remotely talented they go for ridiculous sums. Look at the likes of Carroll and Rooney. Sure they were talented and had immense potential. But did they warrant the sums that were paid for by their clubs?? No.
Yet he has used English players when they possess talent and have quality. The likes of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott are regular starters for Arsenal this season. Arsene Wenger has employed players like Adams and Seaman during his initial years.
Wenger has always stressed that he looks at talent and not nationality. Yet the critics of Arsenal fail to realize this truth.
So the lack Several people criticise Arsene Wenger for adopting his youth policy. Yet few acknowledge that had it not been for injuries to key players, Arsenal might have won trophies several years back. Also as a result of Wenger's youth policy Arsenal are financially stable and will be in the clear when UEFA's new financial fair play rules come in. This something very few people acknowledge.of English players on their squad makes Arsenal a target to all journalists in England.

Another major flaw in Arsenal according to several people is their lack of mental strength.
This is an Arsenal squad that has players like Diaby, Rosicky, players who have been hit by career threatening injuries, yet they bounce back from these setbacks and continue to play at the top level.
Take a look at Lukasz Fabianski for instance. After some torrid performances last season he has bounced back and was one of the Gunners best performers before his injury. After his poor performances he was ridiculed by everyone and people everywhere were calling for him to be sold. Yet he bounced back from it all and put in solid performances.
Surely that is mental strength.
Arsenal this season has grinded wins from tough situations and has the best away record in the league. This has to be a sign of will and determination. Despite all this people still claim Arsenal lack the winning mentality.
When Manchester United or Chelsea grinds out a hard fought win they claim that it is ‘the hallmark of Champions’. But when the Gunners do the same it is termed as a ‘sign of the lack of depth and their inconsistency’.
It is hard to please everyone but in Arsenal’s case they find it difficult to please even a few.
There have been several cases, both recent and old ones that have highlighted the hypocrisy of the Arsenal haters.
When Ramsey was injured by Shawcross, several were quick to defend his actions and claimed that he wasn’t that type of a player. Yet they forgot that he might have just ended the career of one of the world’s most promising talents.
This season when Fabregas injured Ward of Wolves with a tackle, several were quick to condemn his actions and many called him a rash player. Yet they forgot the fact that he went to the Wolves dressing room to apologize and Ward didn’t missing any match as a result of that injury.
Take the case of Eduardo, the former Arsenal player for instance. When he dived to win a penalty against Celtic there was lots of people who labeled him a diver. Yet for these people it is perfectly alright for Rooney to dive.
Why?? Because his is English.
Recently Fabregas got into a heated argument with the referee after he awarded a blatantly offside goal to Everton. Had an English player argued it would have been termed as an act of passion and a sign of his dedication. But since it was done by Fabregas, an Arsenal player it was insulting and a breach of moral conduct.
Ironically leading the protests against Fabregas was David Moyes, the Everton manager and the very man who had ran across the pitch to yell at the referee following his sides draw with Manchester United.
There are several more incidents and these are just some of them.
I don’t expect the articles insulting Arsenal, its manager and players to stop. But I often wonder why that is the case and it baffles me.
