Liverpool Fans Show Their Ungratefulness With Their Attack on Fernando Torres

On the final day of the January transfer window, Fernando Torres completed a 50 million move from Liverpool to Chelsea.
Following his transfer several Liverpool fans have gone on a scathing attack on their former striker calling him ungrateful and disloyal. Many fans believe that he betrayed the club by moving to Chelsea. Fans burnt his jersey outside Liverpool’s training ground and several people have stated how Torres is going to flop at Chelsea.
But is the reaction from the Liverpool fans justified and called for?
Fans believed that Torres should have stuck with the club and helped them come out of their current predicament. But the question I would like to ask is should a player of Torres’s caliber be stuck with a club like Liverpool, a team that will not qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Torres at his best is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in world football if not the best. He deserves to play at the top level and has proven time and time again that he is one of the world’s most talented players.
A player like Torres should be playing Europe’s premier competition not their second rate competition the Europa League.
Last season Liverpool finished the season a miserable 7th and as a result had to play in the Europa League. Right now they are 6th league, having played a game more than those above them.
So despite all the recent enthusiasm and optimism there is virtually no chance that Liverpool would have qualified for the UEFA Champions League. That would mean that next season too Torres would have had to play in the Europa League.
A player like Torres, who is in his peak years, would not want to spend his career playing in the Europa League, when he has a chance to play for Chelsea, win titles and compete in the top competitions, among the best players.
And at Liverpool, Torres had the burden of scoring the goals for Liverpool. Before the arrival of Suarez there was no player who could take the load of Torres’s back. He was expected to deliver the goods at Anfield and there was immense pressure on him to deliver.
At Chelsea, there are players like Drogba, Anelka, who can take of the burden from Torres’s back.
So Torres decided to leave for a club that would give him a chance to play at the top level. Liverpool fans should have bid farewell to one of their greatest players and that should have been the end of it. It was not as if Liverpool didn’t have the cash or a quality back.
They had Suarez who is an able replacement for Torres and the club bought Carroll using the money acquired from Torres’s sale.
But the Liverpool fans start to boo Torres, call him names and start to act ungrateful.
He was a player who scored countless important goals for Liverpool and each and every one of them was loved and adored by the fans. Torres was a player who had given his best for the club.
Yet when he decides to leave they boo him.
Liverpool fans should boo the likes of Rafael Benitez, Roy Hogdson, Gillett and Hicks, the real villains and reasons behind Liverpool’s fans.
Following his move Liverpool fans have come out and claimed that Torres should have stayed at Liverpool which in their opinion is a “real football club”.
Need I remind Liverpool fans that Chelsea have been much more successful that Liverpool in the past decade and right now are undoubtedly the better club.
Torres is a player who scored countless important goals that sent Liverpool fans crazy with joy.
What does he get in return?
He is booed and insulted.
Not the way to treat a hero.

  1. That is the most appallingly written and opinionated 'article' I have ever read. And need I remind you that Liverpool beat 'the better club' in the first match AFTER they bought Torres? Oh! And Chelsea vs Man City... Torres booed by Chelsea fans... Is that hypocrisy I smell?
